Unfortunately I only caught the 2nd set at Bennetts on Sunday night. Masterful, engaging and totally inspiring.

Seriously though... FUCK! Muller writes some great tunes.
Interesting to hear Brett on electric too.
Tim, what's your view on ending sentences with prepositions? Pedant or can't be arsed?

what's your view on ending sentences with prepositions? It's ungrammatical, to begin with...........

Yeah alimcg, some awesome tunes. What I really dug was the relaxed vibe on stage. Is it too often that we see people struggling with their own tunes, or dots or whatever?
It seems obvious, but all members of the trio knew the tunes inside out, which made their playing and manner seem totally chilled, but also put them in a position to amp it up when the wanted to :-)

Yep - I agree Shagz - the music was deceptively simple - I mean , the band makes alot of it sound simpler than it is - . Beautiful attention to sound dynamic and space.

Wow, the band knew the music? God forbid....

I might be mistaken, but I kinda thought there were a few tunes where Tim's head was in the book a bit. I could be wrong. It just looked like on a few of the trickier tunes he was reading (just on the heads).
Either way, great band, great gig, and I'll second what gator said about dynamics and space. My only problem was the lower frequencies were a little muddy, but I think that was more to do with where I was sitting (the little pit on the far side of Bennetts). Always dodgy sound there.

ah well Al, I too was perched on the stairs of the abyss and I know what you mean about the sound there. Leigh, I think it's an all too rare occurrence actually! There's a plethora of great bands and original music coming out in Melbs (I live there so not qualified to talk about sydney, but i actually don't mind the place but all too often it seems the bands have not had enough time to really get inside the tunes. The music is still of a high standard, but when you see someone like Muller or Andrea Keller's quartet or ironguts, to me, that's an entirely different level.

I agree with you - I was being sarcastic about running a band, not sarcastic about your comment! Sorry if I offended.

No no! You didn't offend! I just thought it an interesting subject. Be nice to hear what others think.

It does seem that there are a lot of gigs (and I mean serious gigs), where guys are reading way too much. In just the last week or so I've been to a couple of gigs where the musicians were having to read too much for them to be able to really play the music. The worst was a band leader who didn't know his own tunes.
