Ian, the reason you don't get gigs at Bennetts, Dear, is that you are too old. Chindamo only gets regular gigs there because he lied about his age.
Be thankful that you are not a lady, ladies don't get gigs past 35 years of age there unless they have good plastic surgeons. Rather like flight attendants. Alan Browne just gets in cos he is Alan Browne. Everyone else is young and don't need an income as they still live at home. Get it?
My mum thinks you should get a gig there cos you are a most exciting player, but then she is a jazz boiler.

Ian - I too would prefer it if the talk about Tiger Rex would cease. So I'm curious as to why you would post another new thread to say this. Perhaps your comments could have been slotted into one of the other EIGHT, count them, EIGHT existing threads on the topic, and would be most suited to the one entitled "What is all this Tiger shit about?".

I am in agreement with Mim and Ian. I am really growing tired of this Tiger crapola, and considering abandoning this forum (no offense to Dave Rex and his playing, because he is Tiger, and anyone who argues that is really sad). The joke is growing really old really fast.

the Melbourne Testosterone School of Jazz Sounds interesting, who's the head of school? (By the way I think you have put a nice festival together Mark)

Sounds interesting, who's the head of school? I don't know if I can pursue that one. But it fits in with my theory about Melbourne/sport and all that boofy stuff. I can't think of a motto/motif less inspiring than "I am coming to slaughter". Great, Attilla the Slash Chord! Thanks about the Festival. I'm pleased with the program.

hey, i just insulted tiger elsewhere, so i should say here that chaplin is half decent, for he is at least out of the 50's. pitty he still has one foot in the 60's, but to get out of that is not easy for a reed player. the trouble is, if he ever gets a gig, you know you will be hearing him play the way he WANTED to play 10 years ago if he could get a gig back then.
buying a club to get a gig is the finest of methods. any other technique is just a form of begging.
go drive taxis. my grandmother can play all the coltrane solos in all keys, but she doesn't expect a gig.

I did a gig with Chaplin, Rex (phil) and Simon Barker mid last year, Ian played absolutely amazingly. You'd be hard put to find anyone anywhere play all night with that much strength and excitement. To hear himplay that way with Simon going nuts and Rex doing what he does, he really floored me. I guess being such an expert on Ians playing you must have been there and have your own view, but I recon as far as sound (which includes 'tuning'), time, harmony, form, and sheer excitement he eats up most Sax players around, yes even Tiger! If you wish to insult players of Ians standing fine, how brave you are hiding behind your biggun (did it get bigger), but its a shame you can't respect the time and effort someone like Ian has put into his craft and the struggles he may have faced along the way. Oh, and stuck in the 60's, have you heard his band, Decoy?? Like it or not it aint 60's.
PS; Ian has paid his Taxi driving dues!

Mark, your patronising connection of love of sport with boof-ism/testosterone/whatever is just as lame and tiresome as much of the other silly stuff around here lately
