Man, this is a FORUM!!!!! It not a place to advertise gigs so just cut it out.. and PLEASE STOP WITH THE TIGER HYPE
in fact we should start a NO AMERICAN policy on this forum, no discussions of American Musos- like Tiger- and no AMerican Contributions!
We are Aussies and we are all about Australian JAzz! Brian Brown, Ian Crowther, The Necks, Scott Tinkler, Ian Date, Ken Edie, Paul Grabowsky, Tim Stevens. Tony Gould, Tom Seeger, Sandy Evans, Elana Stone
THESE are Australian Musicans and THESE people are forging an Australian Identity!!!

Google "Tiger Rex" sax and what do you get: nothing. Give it a break!! Most users of this forum are sick of it. I think there is an argument for the removal of posts that just clog things up and make genuine contributions hard to find. I know there are a dozen or so people out there who think it's kind of fun to make up a mythical sax player and to try to see how many people will be fooled into going to a gig... bit like the Ern Malley Affair right?? Maybe Tiger will win next year's ARIA (that would be funny!) And it is kind of amusing I guess except that it has really clogged up this board lately. Shame because it actually was starting to get really interesting, agree with Tim that the review thread (with obvious exceptions) was really fascinating. Having said that, I find a lot of the stupid stuff really funny, but thrashing and thrashing a joke that was only a tiny bit amusing in the first place is boooooooooooooorring. Will it be over after the 14th? ?

Man, this is a FORUM!!!!! It not a place to advertise gigs so just cut it out.. Penny, any issues about the Tiger stuff notwithstanding in principle it is perfectly fine for people to advertise gigs here, in fact that is a big part of what this forum can provide.

I will tell you why; so shall my anticipation prevent your discovery, and your secrecy to the king and queen moult no feather. I have of late--but wherefore I know not--lost all my mirth, forgone all custom of exercises; and indeed it goes so heavily with my disposition that this goodly frame, the earth, seems to me a sterile promontory, this most excellent canopy, the air, look you, this brave o'erhanging firmament, this majestical roof fretted with golden fire, why, it appears no other thing to me than a foul and pestilent congregation of vapours. What a piece of work is a man! how noble in reason! how infinite in faculty! in form and moving how express and admirable! in action how like an angel! in apprehension how like a god! the beauty of the world! the paragon of animals! And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust? man delights not me: no, nor woman neither, though by your smiling you seem to say so.

Tiger really is playing and Imagination is what entertainment is about. Is jazz entertainment or is It something more akin to religous fundamentalism with all its followers feigning understanding and Imbueing the performance with a shh -like austerity. What a bourgouise wank it has evolved to born of gospel and soul and now a precious white trophy won by the most snobby and critical Middle -class teachers .
Tiger Rex has put the (Miles Davis like)fun and creativity back into a Musical form choking on Its seriousness. A king for many reasons.

Wow Penny- Would you like to rethink your Anti-American post? No Americans on the forum, huh....
You wouldn't even KNOW the artform of jazz if it wasn't for the USA... Where do you think jazz started? I suppose you would like to dismiss Gil Askey as well- he's a fellow Texan-born AMERICAN who has lived in Australia for many years ( I myself am married to an Australian and have lived here for 5 years).
I truly hope you were joking...

What about born of :European folk music, Asian classical music, western popular music, and that supremely white, snobby and middle class European classical music. You wouldnt recognise jazz if these elements were missing from it. Whats preferable? To let the music become the political property of an enraged and I might say equally middle class group of retro-ites - or allow it to be interpreted by diverse cultural sensibilities the way it always has? I dont know any teacher who feels as if they own the music - but we all have an angle on it - is that OK?

Sorry Allison, I was really joking about America its just all thsi Tiger crap that made me wanna be stupid...I know America is a huge part of Jazz and its probably a great place to live, apart from George Bush and the politics and stuff...
I suppose its just that Australians always seem to freak out out aboput Americans and how great they are ...and then Aussie musos never get a chance ....I have seen you sing once and you are amazing...so please accept my apologies....but as for this other stuff...i will punch Tigers lights out ...im not kidding about that, i have a green belt in Karate and I will talke him on..well maybe not him..because he is an astonishing player...but maybe this Dave Ettleson guy...who is probably not a real manager anyway!
thanks and sorry,
Pen
