Oehlers, Chindamo, Seidel, Necks, Gustavsen, Choulai, Grabowsky, Pochee. reckon they all deserved it maybe not Seidel who does nothing til she hears from me, but don't know the recording well enough to judge it. glad about Pochee he's a cool geezer but what about the MIJF moving to Crown? how weird is that?

i reckon we get the whole REAL jazz community to boycott crown cause of the nasty toll gamblilng has on battler families, oh hang on....whoops a lot of us make money there doing corporate gigs. Shit we must be as crap as the rest of em.
Whose casting the first stone?
Still I hate the idea of the festival at crown because it is a nasty vile place full of very sad people being unwittingly exploited by assholes who don't give a shit how their poison fucks our community, but yeah i'll take that gig cos it pays really well.

yeah... it's always hard to say no to the money on moral issues when you know it's not gonna make the slightest difference cos some other guy will just do the gig anyway.
The only time I've been pissed of truly and sincerely with the moral implications of the gig was when I was called up by a eltham-based saxophone player who shall remain nameless to do a 'gig' - details unexplained for $70 (i was young) for a couple of sets. The gig turned out to be the launch of a new evil fucking poker machine. AND not only that but the aforementioned saxophonist took a cut, despite the fact that he was not doing a gig, as a 'booking fee'.
in hindsight I should have walked.

" I still don't understand the argument. If you want to see the Australians play you can see them all year, any day of the week, "he says. "That's why we will concentrate on special projects and commissions for them — next year we will have about 40 per cent Australian content."

Is that 40% of total notes, 40% of total musicians, or 40% Australian compositions? What about Aussie players fronting bands of imports, or imports fronting bands of Aussies?

hey punter that is not really true there were some great Aussie gigs at MIJF the year b4 last, like Rob Bourke, Mike Knock, Lyall etc. and doesnt the fringe only exist cos of kneejerk reaction to Dadon? wasn't it a response to all that? I might be wrong though but if the MIJF goes will the fringe go too? i hope not, cos theres room for all
