It reminded me to make one for you-know-who.

Dear Santa

According to an independent state-wide poll, this year I’ve been nice most of the time.

Here’s what I want:

1. A lot less: Donald Trump, George Bush, 4 wheel drives, Paris Hilton, tortured artists singing Kurt Weil/Nick Cave songs, Eddie McGuire, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Mark Holden, Hi 5, David Campbell trying to swing, and Bindi.

2. More funding for: the ABC, community radio stations, Wangaratta (extended to a week), new original Australian music played on acoustic instruments, arts education, and a massive marketing budget for all Australian jazz labels who demonstrate that they care about original music.

3. New (small round) tables and chairs in the original room at Bennetts.

4. An instant anti-paranoia drug spray in a handy purse pack*

5. People who’re often unaware that they talk a lot about their interests but rarely listen, to stfu and pay attention to the people who support them once in a while.**

6. A never ending subscription to Granta

7. Fresh air for all

8. Somewhere close to my house where I can grow tomatoes and other full-sun loving plants.

9. More time***

A good friend told me you and Andrea Keller are on recently published list for 50 important people in Australian music. I haven't seen the list and I don't know who else is on or off it.

I hope everyone is able to enjoy this time with loved ones.

I know many in the jazz community are very sad this festive season. Makes it very, very hard when the rest of the world is carrying on as if nothing happened, and all in celebration mode.

Perhaps it's time to count our blessings?

As for my Festivus pole, it's in my bedroom, nothing like a bit of pole dancing to start the day, and nope, I don't have it on film, Kenny .
