Anyone got any video/dvd footage of the late Joe Lane from Sydney? I used to have this great vid of him singing with Bernie McGann and others but lost it in a house move. The guy was the greatest singer since Carmen McRae....an absolute champion. Let me know if you have this vid I'm talking about or any others with him on it. Ta. Cam

I have 'Beyond El Rocco'and it's not that. I'm pretty sure Mark simmonds is also involved in the jam and a crazy drummer. It was something I recorded off ABC Tv about 12 years ago. I guess i should contact them about it. Cheers anyway.

Hey Cam, I recall an old Don Burrows/Jamesw Morrison live gig (Esso australian jazz festival?) that Joe "Bebop" Lane sang on. Used to have it on Beta cassette!!!!

Forgive, but that still sounds like 'Beyond El Rocco' to me. I'll have to check. Certainly it has a) Joe Lane. b) Mark Simmonds. c) some crazy drumming. My memory tells me the opening scenes have all three combined (though not alone) and Bernie McGann packing up his saxophone and heading out into the night. As ever, I could easily be wrong.

I have a sneaking suspicion it might have been the music series 'Access all areas' which was shown on ABC TV in 1997....

The crazy drummers you mention are Louis Burdett and Greg Sheehan, two of the most original and powerful drummers around. Unfortunately, that version of the Freeboppers was never really documented in the studio. SB

The scenes with Joe Lane from El Rocco are with John Pochee and Tony Buck. Louis is playing duo with Serge Ermoll.
