Australia's greatest unknown jazz pianist Adam Ponting emailed me to ask what were my favourite classical pieces (his were Rachmaninov Symphony No 2 and Debussy's opera Pelleas and Melisande). Here's mine, and other may like to add theirs to this thread.

Beethoven 7th symph, second mvt particularly Beethoven - pathetique sonata, adagio cantabile particularly (cliché, I know) Debussy - La fille aux cheveux de lin (girl with flaxen hair) Holst - most of his choral work Thomas Tallis 40 part motet
