So, I missed it, what's the goss? I did hear the questions to be asked, very keen to know how PR handled them.

You should have been there, it was exciting, edge-of-your-seat stuff. Packed to the rafters and people fighting each other to get their hands on the book. Paul got a black eye, Henk had a few things to say (truly), and Peter matched elegance with articulateness. By the time things wound up at around 2am we were stepping over bodies to get out. The scene will never, ever be the same again.

That good huh? I just had to miss it, damn. The life of a single parent has it's price! Glad it's only for a month.

Yeah, you know, we missed you. You might just have been the civilising influence the occasion needed.

So was there anything significant to emerge from the night's discussions?

Alright then - most of the discussion took place after PR and PG's little tete a tete...between various individuals - the conversation between PG and PR was really more about certain aspects of the book which PG wanted PR to elaborate on......which he did,,and at some length. I really didnt get much from PR in the way of firm ideas - which funnily enough was how I felt about the book. interesting to note that while 'the national Plan "is about 60 pages in length, the actual space devoted to the "plan"bit is about 4 pages of that. The rest is, well, I am not in a position to comment on the validity of PR's perspective on the history of Jazz funding -maybe AJ can give us a heads up on that. I can say that its not an inspiring document, my suspicions about it following a European model were confirmed, although when confronted with his notion of publicly funded venues, PR wilted a bit saying that these ideas were all just 'suggestions'.
The important point for me that came out of the discussion was - that models for a 'dance plan' and "small theatre plan" had inspired some of the ideas - PR gave no firm references within those models though - just mentioned they were important.
Other than the odd mincing from some of PG's questions re the AAO, and in regard to the Melbourne Jazz scene(which exposed PR's rather myopic perception of Melbourne), I dont think too many revelations came to the fore. The evening was all the poorer for not having a professional heckler in the house, although a certain Sax player provided some light abrasions with PR toward the end.
I enjoyed Zoe's band -she is good...

Yes. I wore a tie. Black and white, needless to say..... Royal blue and white would have looked that little bit better.
