Thanks to Stonnington jazz for running a festival of entirely Australian jazz. Lovely gig last night at Chapel off Chapel and particularly nice to be able to get home before 11pm.
We day-job holders love some mid week jazz when it's on at a reasonable hour. Good turn out too.

Thanks to Stonnington jazz for running a festival of entirely Australian jazz. My sentiments exactly. As Gianni Marinucci said at ChapelOC last night, there's plenty of talent in this country. I'm sure he wasn't blowing his own flugelhorn in saying that. The gigs have been booked out or well attended and the program carefully put together by AJ, as is expected. I did not find Vince Jones and Katie Noonan to be my cup of tea, but that's immaterial ... the crowd loved it. McGann with Jex Saarelaht Trio and guest Oehlers was fantastic (I especially love Niko Schauble on drums), and the Hopkins/Marinucci new material was quite a contrast to the Birth of the Cool ensemble in the second half last night. These musicians must have put in a heap of work. Who needs a heap of overseas "stars"? (Though we may not want to knock them back.) I'm torn about tonight: Keen to hear Chindamo meets Muller and Tim Stevens Trio's new material. But would also like to revisit the Isaacs Resurgence Band and The Drunken Boat (never heard it all). Tough choice, but I suppose it's good to have the options. Just wish Stonnington was closer to home.

While we are here, Baz for Wang please AJ.
Julien's gig was good too, they must have rehearsed for weeks!
