Melbourne Jazz just got $65,000 from the city of melb for 2009. I really feel that this sort of funding should require them to be a tad more transparent as a company. They should also be required to make their events much more accessible to the public - perhaps under $100 a pop? Did jazz fringe festival apply for triennial funding under arts innovation? Melbourne Jazz seems to be the only 'jazz' organisation that is receiving CoM funding. hmmm

Surely they have to be accountable in the report to CoM? they would have to report on spending and that would have to be made public. $65 grand is peanuts if you ask me, tho.

every peanut counts when you don't have many peanuts.
Yes, they have to report to the CoM, but i think they need to be more transparent in general. They are the only company to be under review and receive only one years worth of funding instead of receiving triennial funding.

My guess is that Melbourne Jazz (in recent years) has provided free entertainment at Fed Square to satisfy the City of Melbourne ; while the big name concerts have been primarily designed to meet the criteria of Major Events funding.

65 grand I'm sure would go a long way to support local Melbourne jazz performances..and is also most likely a figure that is up there with Wang funding..... Transparency is vital.
