Here's something interesting to try for those with all their jizz as MP3s. Sort by "artist" and then quickly skip through every track they've recorded, giving each just a second to make their opening statement. It will amaze you and cause your hair (assuming you have any) to stand on end to hear the "sameness" in various players' introductions. Notable exceptions (out of a sampling of 10,000 tracks) were Miles Davis, Art Tatum and Andre Previn.
Worst case of lack of imagination - Peggy Lee's various recordings of "Fever" The only thing that was different about all of them was the reverb/quality of the recording. Admittedly all versions were big band recordings, but you'd think after all her years performing that song she'd have at least TWO different arrangements in her book.
