Following the resounding success of the campaign to have WFOJ recognised in the RACV Tourism poll : The Wangaratta Festival Of Jazz has been listed as a finalist in the Limelight Awards, conducted annually by the ABC’s arts and entertainment magazine, Limelight. Now in its 19th year, and internationally recognised as Australia’s premier jazz event, the Wangaratta Festival Of Jazz was nominated by Limelight’s panel of experts for the category of Best Event / Festival. Other finalists in this category include the Four Winds Festival, the Aurora Festival, the Sydney International Piano Competition, Canberra International Music Festival and the Adelaide Festival. Jazz and blues fans are invited to vote for the Wangaratta Festival Of Jazz, before voting closes on 17 October. Votes can be made using a form in the October issue of Limelight ; or by voting online, via www.limelightmagazine.com.au/awardsThe winners will be announced in Sydney on 18 November.

AJ would you be able to find out if non subscribers can actually vote online please?
The ARIA debate is a reminder of how many people working in the Arts don't comprehend how large and diverse our jazz talent is. Perhaps one way of helping contemporary jazz gain more of a profile would be to lobby like hell to make the festival numero uno.
In other words, forget the Tram, we may now have bigger (sustainable) fish to fry.
