Yesterday, I had the misfortune of hearing this cdbaby.com/cd/robertyoung on PBS here in Melbourne. At first I thought someone had been playing around with my radio and left it on some Golden Oldies station, but no, this was PBS. Normally this kind of rubbish would make me change stations instantly, but this was so awful, I waited for the back-announce. Having sat through 2 or 3 minutes I really thought that the backing for this "singer" was a Casio keyboard, not dissimilar to my brothers first keyboard (purchased in 1987). Apparently though, this is the Big Beat Band, made up of "...local Calgary jazz artists that have performed with Rob many times." This is what happens when club owners are encouraged to sing. Robert Young, for all I know, is a lovely guy, with great intentions, but Sinatra would be rolling in his grave if he knew that this was a "tribute" to his life and music. Young sings the "notes" that Frank sang, ripping off the band charts to a large extent too, but you would struggle to find an album less representative of Sinatra's sense of swing and style. Young however, must be laughing, cause there are mugs at radio stations playing his record. Of course, this is the same show where Tal Wilkenfeld was described as a "guitarist".

Does Robert hang out with 'made' guys?

"Made up" guys perhaps. "Here's my friend who plays tenor - Patch #11. And our 'bone player Patch #17."
Or perhaps "Maid" players. That famous French-Canadian maids outfit. I believe that's ironguts favorite dress-up.

Look a little closer and you'll see that it comes out on 'Plunge' Records.
Sounds appropriate.

They should be playing Shooby Taylor instead. The world would be perfect if more radio stations played Shooby.
