It is with much disappointment to announce, due to lack of funding, I am forced to not continue with the programming of regular Thursday night Jazzworx! gigs next year.
As most of you may be aware I had a grant application in with the State arts funding body to pay artists fees to local musicians for the regular gigs, as I believe that musicians shouldn't have to play for "the door" and I would like to thank all the musicians who played at Jazzworx! during this time and gave their best.
It has been a wonderful 2 1/2 years of being able to provide a venue and opportunities for local musicians and audiences. Thank you to everybody who attended performances, especially those who attended regularly and the assistance from too many to mention to enable gigs to occur every week.
The feedback I have received from the funding body is that there was nothing wrong with my grant application and they conceded that I had a good track record over the last 2 1/2 years. They just didn't rank my grant application high enough over other applicants for jazz funding, as well as already funding the organisation which represents jazz in Queensland for an Industry Development Initiative.
We will be programming one off concerts and already next year the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra, Sandy Evans Trio, Jamie Oehlers and Paul Grabowsky have given strong indication about playing at Jazzworx! We will keep you posted about those events.
Once again thank you to everybody for attending and playing the Jazzworx! gig and we look forward to seeing you in the future.
Best regards Dan Quigley
