Saw the above play before a very enthusiastic Sydney festival crowd on saturday night. Great to see the band included lots of Aussie players including Cameron Undy on bass, Aaron Ottingon on piano & our very own Ironguts on trumpet.
I'm not quite sure what to make of this gig. The band basically played jazzish arrangments whilst MH manipulted the sounds adding electronic shading & weird effects whilst prowling the stage ala Charlie Chaplin. The favourite parts for me were when the band were just left alone to play. However the crowd were going off including this Dude near me who was headbanging whilst I was trying to work out which drug induced such a reaction. Any help? I think that for a lot of the Sydney festival crowd they'd cheer anything thrown in front of them & whilst the gig was an enjoyable & entertaining one there was no way that it deserved a standing ovation which a lot of the crowd gave it.
The stand out for the night for me however was Ironguts flared jeans. Wtf? Where did he get em from & when can we expect to see them again? Forwarned is forearmed.

You're right mate, my pants were the highlight indeed! I'm very happy for all those punters that dug the show, standing ovation in Melbourne as well. Not my cup of tea. What's that old saying? Just because 20,000 flies eat shit,,,, or something??

Guts, I read the review this morning from Shand who said that the performance was more intriguing than compelling which I would agree with. It all felt pretty gimicky to me. I was wondering what you made of it all as a performer & what was MH like to work with?

He was fine, all the English guys were really nice and professional. MH himself treated us all with respect and had only positive things to say to us. All in all the experience was fun and we were very well looked after. Like I said, not my cup of tea, but happy to meet those guys including MH and certainly wish them all the best. MH was very skilled I must say too, he really did know his way around the sampling gear. He had each of us put through his gear and could seemingly retrieve any bits very quickly indeed. I don't know if this is hard or not, out of my realm of limited knowledge.
