Yes, it's that time of year again! The National Jazz Writing Competition opens up for entries on Friday 1 May. This year is the year of the essay. We're looking for prose from 1000 - 3000 words in length. Your essay must be on an aspect of jazz or improvised music in Australia. It should not be fiction. Entries close on 31 July. The winning entry will attract a $750 cash prize and will be published in extempore Issue 3 (out in November). 2nd and 3rd prize winners will get CD packs from Birdland and may also be published. Check the new website for more details: njwc.extempore.com.au
