Tuesday May 12th, 2009 This year, the MIUC’s annual contribution to the Melbourne Jazz Fringe Festival spans 3 generations of Free Jazz intensity (with a slight nod to the visceral power of extreme metal). From the venerable Ted Vining (a legend of the Melbourne free jazz scene in trio with the incredible Young and Fryer), to the exciting new directions explored by the emerging talents comprising the Dead Ants. And completing the bill, 2 new woodwind/percussion duos featuring bucketrider alumni with metal émigrés, O’Dwyer and Honeybrook. * Dead Ants Rainbow featuring: Troy Naumoff (Baritone Guitar, Found objects), Lachlan Ewbank (Percussion, Found objects), Julius Millar (Percussion, Found objects), A D Machine (Bass, Found objects), Will Neal (Sax, Found objects), Angus Leslie (Voice, Found objects), Freya Hollick (Voice, Found objects) * Adam Simmons (saxophones and woodwinds) and Brian O’Dwyer (drumkit) * Chris Young (woodwinds), Tom Fryer (electric fretless guitar), Ted Vining (drumkit) * Lloyd Honeybrook (saxophone) and Sean Baxter (drumkit) The Make It Up Club www.myspace.com/makeitupclubAvant Garde Improvised Music and Sound Performance Every Tuesday night at Bar Open, 317 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy 3065 Doors at 8:00 pm for an 8:30 start $5/$10 Coming up: 19/5: Grimcore mini-fest (featuring the Psych Ward Cult) 26/5: Woodwind mini-fest (featuring Natasha Anderson, Martin Mackerras, Tarquin Mannek, and many more!)
