THE NECKS: PERFORMANCES IN FOOD COURT AND WITH BRIAN ENO AT SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE THIS WEEK
The Luminous Festival at the Sydney Opera House, curated by Brian Eno, is turning out to be one of the most exciting things to hit Sydney in a long time. This week The Necks take part in Luminous in two remarkable contexts.
Tuesday and Wednesday see the Sydney premiere of Food Court, with Back to Back Theatre, featuring a live score improvised by The Necks. Coming off a four-night sellout season at the Kunstenfestivaldesartes in Brussels, Food Court is extraordinary, unsettling theatre and unsurprisingly it has now garnered a swag of international invitations for the coming years.
The Australian described Food Court as "a triumph….a work of devastating honesty and, ultimately, extraordinary beauty that confirms Back to Back as a key player in contemporary theatre.
Back to Back Theatre, working with intellectually-disabled performers for over twenty years, create theatre like nothing else, with a world-wide reputation.
The Age said “If Food Court returns somewhere, go wherever it takes you, without question.”
This may be your only chance ever to see Food Court in Sydney, and one of the few chances to see it again in Australia. Don't miss out.

Then on Sunday we have the great honour of being the only Australian artists to be invited to perform with Brian Eno, in Pure Scenius, the massive event devised by him to close the Luminous festival.
Appearing alongside Eno (performing his first concert in Australia ever) and The Necks at this marathon three-concert performance will be Karl Hyde (from Underworld), guitarist Leo Abrahams, and synthesist Jon Hopkins, with Toby Vogel mixing layers of imagery on three screens and Peter Chilvers processing and re-packaging the sound as the concerts progress.
See one concert, two, or all three. Details and tickets at

This is a not-to-be-repeated experience, and is likewise not to be missed.
