Hello everyone.
"Jazz Sound of the Don Burrows Quartet"
I was wondering if anyone knew the year that this album was recorded?
I've got two copies; one is an undated EMI-Columbia re-release, and other is a "World Record Club" re-release from 1977.
Lineup is :
Don Burrows - fife, flute, alto flute, clarinet, alto saxaphone John Sangster - vibes, percussion Ed Gaston - bass George Golla - guitar
My estimate is late 60s - early 70s just based on what I know of when Sangster moved in and out of this group, but I was thinking that someone here might know a little better ....
Can't seem to find reliable info anywhere online ...
Thanks for any help! regards, Simon

Many thanks for your help Timothy, I must get that book I've actually converted the album to digital format - am I allowed to post out-of-print music here? Don't want to break any rules ...

The forum doesn't allow uploads. You can link to things, and if you are linking to a pic or a YouTube clip and you code it using the message compose icons the forum will display pic or YouTube player inline.

Anyway, I'll add them here, let me know if this is a problem. Can't see any problem. On the contrary, what a fantastic resource to generously share.

Even if a record is out of print, it is illegal to upload, share online or download audio files until 50 years from the date of the recording, without the written permission of the copyright holder. Both people making such music available to "share" and those who are themselves "sharing" it are in breach of the law.

Despite the law I think if they are dead or very rich it's up to the conscious of the downloader. Otherwise bad karma.

If there's a general feeling amongst members here that this is not on, I'm quite happy to pull the links - that's why I was seeking an admin opinion before posting them at all. My personal take on long out-of-print material is that there's no moral difference between me posting links here for free and some private dealer making a $US35 profit from it, none of which goes to the artist. It could also be noted that heightened awareness of out-of-print material can eventually influence the re-release market. No-one's been near this record for 32 years. Anyway that's my personal take, quite happy to go wih majority opinion and/or the word of any admins.

It is certainly illegal: Tim and andrewh are quite right. I was completely wrong. What was I thinking? I read "out of print" as if it were "out of copyright". Apologies. Big goof on my part, just too busy and posted without thinking. Don't normally do that. I've done the deletion for you.
