Here's a real year-opener! On Thursday 11th February at Dizzy's Jazz Club in Richmond, my Lazybones quintet of me and Eric Budd (trombones), Simon Mavin (piano), Tom Lee (bass) and Jim Osborne (drums), will be playing our usual swinging, melodic jazz PLUS the Australian premiere of a Charlie Mingus composition written in 1954 for the Jay and Kai quintet. We will also present Kai Winding's 'Ivy League' 1956 version of "Frankie and Johnny" for narrator, 4 trombones and rhythm (this could well be an Australian premiere, too). You don't get many chances to hear a gig like this, so come along and give your ears a treat!
I'm working on several other premieres for this year, and I'll keep you posted.
