Julien always looks divine, he made Vanity Fair's best dressed list last year did oyu know, right next to Ben Affleck.
I don't think I am one of Australia's keenest jazz supporters, I pale compared to some of that lot from Kiama or say my Mum, for example.
But thanks for that Adrian, how kind. I would say that I am just one Australian who loves jazz, I can't get by wthout it actually. Compared to the lot from Kiama jazz I pale into insignificance.

Shake the trees hard enough and even that lot from Kiama might full out. John, Judy and I have tickets for the The Studio at the Syd Opera House tonight, to see Julien/Steve/Will and of course Mike Nock. Thanks for the Bell info AJ we'll be able to offer our congratulations tonight. Have ordered our tickets for Wang, and am just about to print out the program to show Judy.
If you do move to Australia, might I suggest Kiama (south of Sydney) Fabulous area, friendly people. Unfortunately the local media are unable to print any jazz advertising without inserting the banner: AND ALL THAT JAZZ. ....the other Vicki

Unfortunately the local media are unable to print any jazz advertising without inserting the banner: AND ALL THAT JAZZ. ....the other Vicki Funny! AJ and I a running competition to see who can spot the most ATJ headlines. I've had a couple of musos, quite justifiably, ask me to make sure that phrase doesn't sit atop interviews I've done with them. And I must catch at least a dozen or so edxamples each year before they make it into the paper.

Not to mention the obligatory pic of a singer or horn player, with a caption telling readers they are 'belting out' a tune.

My god I'm sorry I can't let that remark about 'not enough strong bass players' go. I'm assuming that we're talking about double bass players playing 'jazz' and that people making these kind of remarks lack the ears or the intelligence and initiative to go out and hear some good playing. A starting list might include Gary Costello, Nick Heywood, Anita Hustas, Mark Shepherd, Simon Starr, Ben Robertson, Howard Cairns, Barry Buckley, Jo To, Tamara Murphy, Frank Di Sario... (profound apologies to all the wonderful people I've forgotten or haven't heard...cause I'm sure there's another dozen at least)

Re bass players... I agree with you on that. Some of the bassists on your list are also massively underrated, Frank is one of the most soulful and creative bass players in the country but he gets overlooked for lots of gigs. He's also a great composer/conceptualist, check his latest album with Stephen Magnusson... Boundaries

Hey we just tell it like we hear it on OJF.
What is this, "you can't handle the truth!" time?
i.e. that a few band leaders want more bass players or that some band leaders aren't more respectful of bass players?
Or that some excellent bass players have off nights which pisses off some demanding band leaders?
Or that some band leaders are too demanding?
Now I'm even boring myself. Night!

Hey sorry I'm not trying to shoot the messenger - just hoping to make people think a little bit outside their own little universe. Actually I don't have a leg to stand on, I can't find a good drummer.......
