Freeloader ? Drunk ? Who, me ?? What do you say Kenny ? (Make it a double-strength espresso for Kenny this morning) Yes well the score so far is one latte and one bottle o' Coke. Among the many blessings of family life, a significant one is surely that I no longer drink like that every other day of the week. Blech!

Thanks AJ - rang media person for MIJF for the press release on finalists this morning to post here by curtting and pasting form an email still waiting to receive it. I was asked for my fax number which I thought was rather quaint for a PR company in 2004.
Well only one person I voted for won anything i.e. Phil Slater.
From the finalists and the work of the finalists for the period of judegment I am surprised at who won what. But I am one of Australia's most opinionated people.
To the other Vicki: Well done girl! Bev says Hi.
Are you guys going to be at Wang for the Cup Eve gig this year too?

How does it work? The panel chooses the nominees then the award is given on the basis of the voting? If so how many actual votes were recorded??? Also who was on the panel?

You sound so negative! I'd love to hear why you think it doesn't work. Surley raising money for the Umbria Jazz in Melbourne Festival is a good thing, then we can give lots of money to Internationals to play here instead of paying for "local" muso's.

yes VHB we will be staying for that, always enjoy a wine or two on the Monday by the creek. by the way had a great night at the JAZZ NOW fest at the Studio of the Sydney Opera House last Thursday, great venue but don't know what was going on with the lighting and fog machine. Alcohotlicks rocked (Aaron Flower, Ben Hauptman guitars, Evan Mannell drums and smooth mc work. Mike Nock played a great solo set, he mentioned at the start that he would just play like he was at home. Vicki caught up with him after and said she had visions of being Mrs Nock relaxing on the lounge listening to that all day. Mike replied oh no you'd be in the kitchen cooking dinner! left Vicki a little deflated. Julian and Steve bought up Stephan Grant on piano accordian as Will was in Paris. What amazes us with them is it is always the unexpected, they played some brazilian composers (Hermeto Pascoal and Milton Nascimento, just beatiful). As well as some original stuff. If this night was anything to go by the Festival will be a great success, congrats to SIMA and the Jazzgroove Association. lets hope its an annual event.

He actually thought Phil Slater couldn't play! But now he is the Bell Jazz Artist of the year. I guess Phil did a lot of practise in the last coupla years. I think this might call for a fringe festival - Australian Contemporary Improvised Music in Fitzroy- We could do a sausage sizzle and drink loads of VB and listen to beaut Ausy Crazyness. Who wants to help me do it?

yeah... a fringe festival is the go : . something's gotta give when the powers that be think it's a good idea to try to charge musicians $100 to go to an awards fundraiser and then use the funds towards a festival that they're gunna call umbria jazz in melbourne . what gives with that... :-/corporate jazz and goddam cultural cringe. .. maybe we could call it the cringe fringe . so i'd help you out mr jazz fan if i knew who you were... and maybe phil :oleft his freddie hubbard licks at home that night...
