anonymity - alimcg - "who is this barbarian"
1 point - is music making about competition anyway? 3 judges assess 1 guy as being better, faster, stronger and another 3 judges would assess a different musician as being the same. This is obvious from the comments of knowledgeable people on the sport of jazz claiming this player or that player was more deserving. Really, it is MUSIC, not aerial skiing!

I've been viewing this board for a very long time. I acknowledge I may be a half wit but have no idea who you are 'alimcg'! Why the hell would people know who you are? For the majority of non musician people here 'alimcg' is simply another anonymous tag. But please enlighten me!

Wouldn't require a terribly in-depth look at my postings to find out. Of course, you may still not know who I am. But if you do know me, you'd realise that "alimcg" is hardly a startling pseudonym.

It's one thing to say that you disagree with the judges, but what I saw at the abc thread was hostility completely out of proportion with the topic. By all means, let's disagree, have a good discussion about relative merits and so-on. A competition like this will never have a result that is satisfactory to all - it's not a sporting competition - but how about actually laying out a clear case, instead of resorting to the kind of immature debate more suited to a Collingwood supporters' forum! (sorry, couldn't help myself!) And as for anonymity, it may help bring openness to some discussions, but in this case it smacks of cowards hiding behind it to throw mud.
