Yes it is Vic Vicki speaking now we are in danger of confusing the BJN (boy jazz nerds with the two of us now Vicki, so I reckon I'll be Vic Vicki and you could be NSW Vicki) anyway we both look so much alike they might get us confused. I thought that John';s comments on Mike Knock w/Jules and Mags was so psotive that I would take the liberty of re posting them here under a POSTITIVE Thread. SO here is a place for celebrations of the music we love so much.

yes VHB we will be staying for that, always enjoy a wine or two on the Monday by the creek. by the way had a great night at the JAZZ NOW fest at the Studio of the Sydney Opera House last Thursday, great venue but don't know what was going on with the lighting and fog machine. Alcohotlicks rocked (Aaron Flower, Ben Hauptman guitars, Evan Mannell drums and smooth mc work. Mike Nock played a great solo set, he mentioned at the start that he would just play like he was at home. Vicki caught up with him after and said she had visions of being Mrs Nock relaxing on the lounge listening to that all day. Mike replied oh no you'd be in the kitchen cooking dinner! left Vicki a little deflated. Julian and Steve bought up Stephan Grant on piano accordian as Will was in Paris. What amazes us with them is it is always the unexpected, they played some brazilian composers (Hermeto Pascoal and Milton Nascimento, just beatiful). As well as some original stuff. If this night was anything to go by the Festival will be a great success, congrats to SIMA and the Jazzgroove Association. lets hope its an annual event

Now here is my positive dilemma

Firstly John and NSWV - we are very jealous of your totally amazing night out, but you can keep the smoke.

Tomorrow night I can't decide what to do! I need some help from OJFers.

Do I go to see Tim Stevens with Ben R and Dave Beck at Bennetts lane - firstly, to hear great music and secondly to encourage BL to continue to continue to run gigs where original music is performed

OR go to Half Bent to support great LOCAL music and to the HalfBent Guys who work so HARD for us. Some of those performances are going to be out of this world, for me anyway,

OR go to another classical gig that I really want to go to in Mentone by a bloke from overseas who probably I won't get to hear again in such an intimate place?

All the gigs I want to go to are at roughly the same time I want to attend each gig as much as the next

and worst of all it means missing out on Australian Idol

what would you do? positive answers appreciated!

given that mags, julien & stephen grant are doing half bent also, and you've heard how good that'll be - i think half bent wins. do whatever you want though - geez its a tough world we live in huh...

Thanks G, I know those gentlemen are superb I nominated two of them for Bells (as I'm sure others did) as part of the best ensemble category sponsored by Omo, no that was.. Dulux, nah... SAAB? oh rats can't remember the sponsors name, anyway we know they are make brilliant music. That is not the issue here, so I still need help with the decision guys!

Owing to the dazzling array of talent and the superb promotional efforts of its Artistic Director, it looks like just about everyone will be at Half Bent, as well they should. But spare a thought for us at Bennetts, also fighting the rear-guard action for original music in an increasingly unadventurous world, and pop by even if only for the last set. (Apologies to any members of Ambergris who might be reading.) Get in (and get out) before the place is colonised by - saints preserve us - Tim Freedman.

To add a positive note : I caught Jazz Now over the last 3 nights at the Opera House. Great event, consistently excellent performances, good audiences..............5 stars for SIMA & Jazzgroove !!

I thought hard about this option, however as
aid workers earn less than those corporate workers whose employers now fund the MIJF it is also a financial consideration here too but I have now ruled out the classical gig, so it is down to the coin toss.

see some of you somewhere I think, I'll take the tram into town and flip the coin when I get to Fed Sqaure!
