So anyone got a clue who will replace Sophie Brous at MIJF? Any truth to the Megan Evans rumor?

FWIW, I've heard that Michael Tortoni will be doing the program. (I don't know how the roles/responsibilities were split between Michael and Sophie previously).

Um... from what I heard Michael has done pretty much bugger all towards the last three festivals. Oh no I stand corrected, he booked Chris Botti!! So was Sophie pushed or did she jump?

As I said, I don't know who did exactly what. I don't have any inside info. Sophie says she moved on to focus on her career as a performer, and I believe she has a job working on programming for the Adelaide Festival for next year too.
Anyway, whoever booked Chris Botti did me a favour : one less choice to make, when deciding which shows to catch!

Curious to hear you bagging Botti. I didn't see him but when he played the Basement in Sydney critic John Shand absolutely raved about the gig and his band. You can't miss this etc.

Botti played The Basement in Sydney last year. This year he returned, and played the City Recital Hall. Ask most in that packed house, their opinion. 'Cause I was one - a fabulous evening! It's rumoured he'll be back next year also! Bring it on!

Hey, if people enjoyed Botti, good luck to 'em. I didn't catch his gig ; heard his cd/watched the concert dvd, it was waaaaay too slick for my liking.

Botti had guitarist Mark Whitfield with him as well. Wow! This guy had the crowd in the palm of his hand! We could do with a few more concerts of this calibre! Hope they come back next year.

Well if Tortoni really does program the festival this year we may even get Kenny G!

Ah, it's very nice to see people still chatting away here even with Facebook taking over the show...

.... a follow-up to the earlier comments regarding Chris Botti. He will be in Australia for a third visit in March. I believe that the concerts will be in both Melbourne and Sydney. Regarding the Sydney concerts, Chris Botti will be with his band, plus the Sydney Symphony, for two nights at the Sydney Opera House. Now, that's a must!!!

Mark Whitfield sounds like he really knows how to captivate an audience! Concerts of that caliber are truly memorable experiences. Hopefully, they'll make a return next year for more unforgettable performances!
