What are your thoughts on the program? I'm not that into it. A few good internationals that I'm interested to see, but that's about it... What about all the great Melbourne stuff that is going on!!?

In fairness it is an 'international' festival so I guess it's not too surprising that the program is dominated by visitors. It's a real shame to see that Overground is no longer but who'd book it in the absence of Sophie? Surely this is a great opportunity for the Jazz Fringe to step up again??

Agree entirely. There are a number of good Melbourne bands that are continually overlooked by festival directors and club owners. OK, I have a vested interest in this, as several of these bands are mine. But we've had such a great response from listeners, we play music that no-one else is playing, the musos are as good as most overseas players, and I feel I have to pay the guys out of my own pocket because door deals are risible and no-one values the music enough. That's an old story, of course, but surely a festival in Melbourne, even if it bills itself as 'international', should be booking lots of local artists. It would be such a great service to the Melbourne jazz community because these bands would have a decent-sized audience at least once a year, and this would do a lot to increase listeners' awareness of their existence and the delights they offer.
