seems like every musician in town (among the younger generation at least) was at the opening of Lebowski's last night.
Why not ? 3 hot bands (Assumptions, Hoodangers, Vada), $5 entry, 1/2 price drinks (compared to most other venues around town).
It's at the Fitzroy (lawn) bowling club, so the name refers to the Coen Bros film The Big Lebowski.
Fridays from 9.30..................looks like a winner. Cheers to those involved in getting it up & running (I think it was Steve Mag, Eugene Ball, maybe a few others ?)

Amen! what a great night - here's hoping it lasts forever. I was shocked at the bar prices, I don't think I've paid so little for a round since the 1980s...Does anyone know who's on next week?

congratulations to all involved with lebowski's, sounds a bit like the old Starfish Club (Sydney) run by musicians and was held at the Clovelly Bowling Club. Cheap drinks too. Good news up our way is that the Starfish Club kicks off again this time in Bondi at the Bondi Pavilion on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 27, The night will begin with a wine tasting (Two red and two white on a Starfish Label!) selected by the expert himself ..THE WINE MAN, PETER BOURNE. We are thrilled that Peter is involved, you will all be treated to choice wines and beer, a vast improvement from the days of the bowling club house specials! At this stage we will be having beer from SCHARERS LITTLE BREWERY in Picton, some of you may be familiar with this wonderful drop....and also non alcoholic beverages for the non drinkers. There will be food available all night, back to the spectacular Starfish sausage on a roll....not just any old sausage..
AS FOR THE MUSIC!! the Starfish Stellar Jazz All Stars play HERB ALBERT and BURT BACHARACH !!
The band, put together by JONATHAN ZWARTZ (double bass) and HAMISH STUART (drums),will also feature MIKE BUKOVSKY(trumpet) MIKE NOCK (keyboard) AIKO AHKRIFF (percussion) TIM ROLLINSON (guitar) DARREN PERCIVAL (vocals) JAMES GREENING (trombone)... That¹s so far.... No doubt there will be additions to this already impressive lineup, keep you posted.
SO... Remember the date... SATURDAY NOVEMBER 27th BONDI PAVILION. HIGH TIDE ROOM (that¹s behind the pavilion, entrance is on the SOUTHERN SIDE of Pavilion up from the BRONZE STATUE of the LIFESAVER) STARTS WITH WINE TASTING...7.30PM ( to 8.30pm) FOOD AVAILABLE FROM 7.30PM BAND STARTS 9PM ENTRY $25 ($20 concession with ID). Includes wine tasting. ( Bar not included) No prior bookings.. So come nice and early. Information care of Jonathon Zwartz, We are looking forward to this one. Good to see muso's out there creating their own environments for the music. Its up to us punters to support it.
A.J. and everyone in Wangaratta, thanks again for another brilliant Festival, the long drive home is filled with debates on what we enjoyed the most. The diversity of quality music and the friends we catch up with is what makes this festival so good.

True !
Then again, for $5, you can't go far wrong.
My guess is that the opening night bands will feature regularly.......& maybe a few like-minded bands, who don't need a grand piano.
eg IshIsh, Murphy's Law, Virus....any other suggestions ?

Motley Crue, Duran Duran, . Speaking of which, how about The Invasion Of The Dags: The Moody Blues, The Bachelors AND Val Doonican all touring! Roll out those cardies, AJ! Actually, I intend attending this Friday to see/hear STinkler with Chaplin. So where IS Lebowski's? Relative to your typical Fitzroy landmarks etc.
