So what's everyone been catching ...
For the five of the past six weeks I've fronted the Rainbow Hotel and the PW Hammond Combo after The Pearls. Been a long, long time since I got in a serious groove with the boys - it's yummy how the music depending on who the guest(s) is(are): Ollie from Cat Empire, Craig Fermanis, Geoff Achison, Jake Mason and so on.
A while back I saw a good one by the Rob Burke Quartet at Bennetts Lane, and also saw Rob with Dodge at the Infamous Spiegeltent, with guest Russell Smith, who (BTW) with Ruby Carter will be the Hammond Combo's guest this coming Monday night.
I also saw a fine show by Jamie Oehlers, with Paul Williamson on trumpet, at the tent, the Sunday arvo shows of which are a true blessing for me and Bennie. Thanks, Andrew and Michelle!
Last Sunday, Bennie and I also took in the launch of MIWJF at EQ. Bennie impressed folks with his three-and-a-half-year-old gourmand liking for kalamata olives and spiced nuts. Sally Ford and the Pachucho Playboys played Willie Bobo's Fried Neckbones And Some Homefries!
And then, on Thursday night, I saw Kiwis the Charmaine Ford Trio (not too flash, I'm afraid) and the Anita Hustas Group's performance of Music Of The Trees. Which was weird and wonderful and spooky and beautiful and quite unlike anything I've heard before and had two basses and accordian and Sandy Evans.
Anyone else have comments on MIWJF shows?
Hey hey there's real gelati at Southgate now!
