In an email exchange with a certain Australian-in-NY drummer today I lamented the sketchy information available about what Australians working/playing/studying/recording/whatevering overseas are up to.
Perhaps we can use this thread to keep track of some of these folks and their ups, downs, triumphs, dietry habits, drinking problems, broken hearts and so on.
In the case of one player, I was delighted to see what turned up when I dropped "Matt Clohesy" into Google.
My what a busy lad. Work with the likes of Vincent Herring, Jon Wikan, Geoff Keezer (including recording a live album), Ingrid Jensen and many more. Even a money gig for Rupert and Newscorp!

Yeah, well maybe those over there will take a little time to tell us what they're up to.
WTF is this? False modesty. To hell with that - we want details.
We know (or can guess with some certainty) that you all lurk here from your swish Manhattan pads.
So fire up!

Unfortunately, I can't play music on my work computer. I wish him well. But not liking smooth jazz does not make one a jazz purist.

Actually, in my view Benson's music is more Acid or Soul Jazz than Smooth Jazz, but hey, as long as it hits the spot.

Matt Clohesy performs on the new album by trumpeter Ingrid Jensen, along with Geoffrey Keezer, Jon Wikan and Hugo Alcazar. It's only available through the artistShare online setup being used by the likes of Maria Schneider and Jim Hall. I'll be ordering a copy next week. www.ingridjensen.com/ There's samples of the album at the site, as well as a "bootleg radio" section with tunes from gigs featuring M. Clohesy. The first one, with George Garzone, rips.

Les petits poissons devraient rester à New York.

Hey Kenny, while you've been away Jules, myself and Stinky have been pushing for Garzones group The Fringe to come out to Wang (see Wang thread). Have you heard them? If you liked that track, you should hear his group!

Danny? Hey sounds like things are going well for you, no wonder, your a great player and def have your own thing. Would be great for all if you had time to let us in on how its going. I'm especially interested to hear about some of the projects you're doing and if you're getting a chance to play with that fire and inventivness we all love you for. Don't be put off by the sarcastic jealous types, youve got a lot of respect for putting the effort in, all the best to you and look forward to having a hit again one day.

You know I used to like danny fischer...
he did this thing where he'd built up to a mini-climax, break on 4, then 2 (or on special occasions 4) bars of nothing but hi-hat, then KA_BOOM!!!!!!!!!: one gigantic bomb on four.
then he stopped doing it. BOOOOOO!!!
so danny - come back to australia, and start doing that thing again, and I'll buy you a beer.
