John Farnham hmm.. I think he has a great voice, powerful although not my preferred style of music. But I'd much rather hear him sing pop tunes than Kate Ceberano trying to be Betty Carter ANY day. But then, I was raised properly!
OK then, to be fair I haven't heard Kate sing since I accidentally heard her sadly doing a terrible impersonation of the late, great Betty once on London's Jazz FM (when they used to play some Jazz) and had to dismiss her for eternity for crimes against humanity. That was a long time ago, so maybe she has learnt something since then and I am being too dismissive. At least she's picked a decent pianist. Who by the way was one of the few Aussie jazz muso's cd I found in Virgin megastore in London.
Speaking of Jazz FM, and having just got back from the UK, I listened to it in the cab on the way to LHR and all I heard was R & B and I heard they are changing their name to Smooth FM.
So maybe there's the answer: if you want success don't play Jazz, play Smooth! And maybe don't bother sending them your CDs any more, unless your name rhymes with gate.

Hopefully, smooth (not)jazz will never catch on here. But then: I thought the same thing a decade ago about contemporary (not)R&B that has neither rhythm nor blues. Blech!
