Currently researching search engine optimisation strategies so as an exercise in futility I looked at how many web hits do "they"+jazz have? This as at Saturday 26 March 2005.
We're talking Google dot com (not Google dot com au)
Doing a search on name + jazz (to rule out plumbers, teachers, brain surgeons etc.)
Dale Barlow………1,680
Paul Grabowsky…….847 (sic)
Adam Simmons….….692
Phil Slater………….. 518
Mike Nock……….. 4,060
Don Burrows………..827
Bernie McGann …. 1,970
Michelle Nicolle …1,450
Julien Wilson……….157
Andrea Keller……… 412
Jessica Williams ….7,900
Mark Isaacs…………937
Sandy Evans………..969
Joe Chindamo……..2,550
Don Burrows…………827
James Morrison……15,100
Gate Soprano……….821
Kylie Minogue…593,000
Charlie Parker… 408,000
Tony Gould…..564
Ella Fitzgerald, 442,000
Art Tatum…… 77,460
Max Roach….110,000
Tim Stevens … 2,970
Miles Davis….567,000
Keith Jarrett….183,000
Graeme Lyall… 306
Cannonball Adderley…. 239,000
So Kylie beats Miles, Bird, Cannonball and Ella! AND Grabbers didn’t make 4 digits! So that tells you that net statistics are a load of codswallop.

see what happens if you democratize information? besides, i thought 'googling' just to get number of hits was a way for lazy journalists to start an article. Apart from providing easy copy, what does it tell us?

Trumpet head sorry matey you haven't followed procedures. The excercise is to put "unique name here" +jazz i.e. you would type "Scott Tinkler" +jazz = 607 "Freddie Hubbard" +jazz = 101,000 If you did a search in the last twenty minutes on Herb Alpert + jazz the number of hits on www.google.com is actually only 47,000 .

Another fact about search engines is they all change the pages they scan every six weeks or so. To get listed toward the top you better sort out your meta tags on your website now dudes. Just buy Dreamweaver for dummies and diy pal.

I'll think about it. First, please tell me more about your work.
Are you playing great music that might help someone who for example, and speaking purely hypothetically here, might work in the area of global social justice? Wold your music help give them an ecstatic escape from all things depressing?
If so I do have some information for musicians who wish to expand their audience through e-communications. But I need convincing that they deserve it first.
My usual corporate rate is around $270 per hour (AUD). But I do pro bono for musicians whose music I like and whom I can see mentoring other younger musicians. I realise you might earn even more than I can in one session with say, hypotheically speaking, the Australian Art Orchestra but that is just a guesstimate.
But then again you may just gig at Bennetts and the Cape lounge therefore, would you like me to send you a food parcel along with an introduction to e-commerce for musicians and DIY easy easy marketing through the web/imode?
just let me know

Sorry to burst the web nurd bubble but doing a gig with the AAO ( Art Orchestra ) at the Concert hall to an audience of around 2000 people with get you the great amount of $130 ! Its no different than a Bennetts gig, in fact Ive got more than that at Bennetts several times. I think Morrison and to a lesser extent Grabba, are the only 'jazz' musos in the country that can get considerably better than the old $100 for a gig.
PS the AAO could do with some help from the likes of you Im sure, none of us are getting rich.

You AAO musicians need a new agent!
That is a crap pay for a gig like that. BTW What does the conductor get?
Ok I'll post something here but give me a week or so to get it Jazz-ified.
