Downloading Music Online - different file sizes and formats. Someone was asking about hints for using the wonderful world of electronic media. So I thought I start a thread with bits of information that might be helpful to those who haven't studied electronic commerce or marketing online. This one was just from the latest Bigpond enewsletter but I'll post some more stuff when I get around to it, promise. It might be useful to keep this thread as info only and put comments on another thread. DOWNLOADING MUSIC ONLINE? A Windows Media file is a CD-quality compressed recording that occupies approximately one tenth to one twelfth less file space than the equivalent CD format WAV/AIFF file. It also contains information called DRM (digital rights management) that prevents it being copied to unauthorised users. If you're wondering why some files seem to take forever to download, it's simply a matter of megabytes. The size of files, including emails, web pages and music tracks, can vary enormously. The megabyte size of an average (POP) song is usually between 3 and 5 megabytes (depending on the file format). You can easily find the size of most downloads before you commit your time, usage and hard drive space - find out how at info.bigpond.com/cgi bin16/DM/y/elRf0KC7dt0Uqt0BvBh0EO Copyright Telstra Bigpond 2005. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ P.S. I use Bigpond cos I have to, but there are other services that provide reliable and much cheaper ways to get faster download times/broadband width.
