Joe Robinson Quartet - While I'm Waiting. Got this one through Peebs. A prime example of why the interent is wunnaful and the major labels (and even major minors) don't matter at all anymore. A crew from Brighton (England) released on an Indiana (US) label, being enjoyed in Melbourne (Australia). Straighead tenor and rhythm section stuff, but sweet sweet sweet and hard-swinging. Like the Eric Alexander stuff I've heard.

Yes, well ... Mr Tame is a rare Australian example of that absurd species, Grateful Dead Completist. Geez, what a loser!
True story: Mr Tame himself has told me that - disappointed with yet another lame, waffly, ultra-noodly multi-disc set purchased from the Dead website - he threw all six discs in his player, pressed random and went outside to do some gardening.
That way he could return, several (many) hours later, safe in the knowledge that whole thing HAD BEEN PLAYED AT LEAST ONCE.
Me, I just triy to pick the eyes out of 'em. And with receipt of the Fillmore set, my Dead spree has ended (untiol next time, of course ...)

Or until you collect those cds from me that you left in your motel at Wang. Yes, well I'm obviously missing them a whole helluva lot. With my ears taking me through a heap of western swing and bluegrass and early '20s jazz in the past few moths - along with the Dead - I was a bit worried that I was going to disenfranchise my new audience when I take up the Peebs 1-3pm Sunday arvo slot this coming Sunday. But oddly enough, I have this wek been playing a mountain of Bennie Golson, Jimmy Forrest, Jazz Crusaders, Joe Henderson, Johnny Lytle, John Patton etc etc. And I'll also have Tim Stevens on.

hey march did you ever check out Threadgill's Sextet ? (It was a 7-piece band). Some of the best music to come out of NY in the 80s.
