Ahhh - Sunday 11.30am, unhungover, wife and child absent, trawling the boards, reading the papers and Illinois Jacquet turned up to a SpinalTapesque 11.

I'm listening to....
Phil Slater - Strobe Coma Virgo : What an awesome album! Mystical.
Vada - Songs from the Dirty South : Great melodies & plenty of energy. Interesting recorded sound.
Joshua Redman - Elastic : This album makes me smile - I'm a big fan of Sam Yahel.
Michelle Nicolle - The Crying Game : Nice work - love the brass band!
Joe Henderson - Tetragon : What can I say - it's absolute bliss.
Roy Hargrove - RH Factor, Hard Groove. Hmmmm interesting - inconsistent though.
I've got a couple of brand new copies of Roy Hargroves 'RH Factor : Hard Groove' cd for sale. They're $18 ea if you're interested. Send me an email.

Hey Iron, Interested as to why you consider Roy Hargrove's CD "sad shit"? It's definitely not THE shit or GOOD shit, but I don't know about SAD shit. It actually made me feel quite happy. Can you just talk it up a little bit? - that way I might sell my spare copies... In case you're wondering, I am setting up a little j**z CD shop within a shop. My dad is opening up a bookstore in Healesville in a few weeks and I am going to have a j**z CD stand. Priced b/w $15 & $20. I'd love to stock and feature OZ artists, so if you want to have your cd's on the stand, chuck me an email and we'll arrange it.

Crikey Kenny - so were you Cartman? And if not please do tell who accused you?
I heard many rumours over the years, was it years the brat was with us, maybe it justseemed that way. As to the true identity, others accused include: Danny Fischer who said it wasn't him, various members of Blowfish, Michael Tortoni, Jane March, all of the Necks in a democratic-stylee-trio-posting-session thing, Chindamo, Grabbers, Tinkler, Jules W, Nick McBride, Jon Zwarz, Will Guthrie, Mark Isaacs, Morrison, Dave Beck, Christine Sullivan's chair, Martin Jackson's hair, Peter Knight, Henk, Wally, and Fionna Burnett. So you see you have some interesting company combos.
But I agree with the Guts cometimes I miss the festively plump brat and when ever I see him on TV I shed a silent tear. Maybe his ghost will come back.
He was really detested in some jazz circles so that tells us a lot lurkers more read than post.

Nope, not me. And I wasn't accused - it was more a passing comment by someone who had heard my name mentioned in this regard. Someone the name of whom is just above. ;D

Starting of 2004 with a bang (and wife and child staying elsewhere for the night. Volume at 11): *Anton Delecca Quartet - Flow (Newmarket). (Holy shit. I think for a lot of people, me included, this one slipped by when it was released. Now I'm playing it a lot. Great, great tunes, and playing that makes me catch my breath.) *Trio Alchemy - Reflection (Webster's Jazz Classics). *Tim McMahon Ensemble - Illuminations ((Heavywood). (A couple of newish opeii (?) from the San Diego area, sent to me by a buddy. Nice.) *Thelonious Monk - Underground and Criss-Cross (Columbia) *Bing Crosby - His Legendary Years 1931-1957 (MCA) (Goes with the Gary Giddins' bio I got for Chrissie. A mind-blowing read. What a man! As the back of the books quotes Artie Shaw: "The thing you have to remember about Bing Crosby is that he was the first hip white person born in the United States.")

HarDi & Co - Fourthcoming. Being launched at Bennetts Lane on Tuesday. Tasty.
Moon Mullican - I'll Sail My Ship Alone. Freaking brilliant western swing/hillbilly boogie.
Mike Wofford - Synergy. Tough/smart/ piano trio from San Diego.
Kylie Minogue - Sings Ella. NOT!
