awesome gig last nite --yadda yadda yadda-- & our original black and whaite tv show Adams family dvd cos Olly IS cousin It . I didn't realise Cousin It was singing, I thought he was just on diet pills, but to paraphrase a dear friend, the Adams family was the first 'reality' TV show. I think he meant that they were his ideal. They were for me, and probably for a lot of other jazz nerds who grew up then. Like many young Aussies I wanted to be Morticia. I ended up more like Grandmamma, but hey, she could cook! Listening to Lynette, singing beautifully on the ABC. What a superb episode of Spicks and Specks that was! May God bless the ABC, and all who are left there. Lynette, you look great on TV, you have the perfect face for it.

The quest continues. Knocked off DIG yesterday. I've got a bit of a soft-spot for them, but gee I can't stand Scott's rapping! Next up - The Desperadoes Steel Pan Orchestra (I don't even know how I came to have this CD), and then a long stretch of Miles. Someone once told me he was just a trumpeter. Let's find out starting with his Montreux concert revisiting the Gil Evans scores, finishing up some 40-odd years earlier.

Today and all day yesterday!
Still by Colin Hopkins (Rufus) Quiet, solo piano. Exquisite. Thanks Colin. Mainly originals plus a few standards. Giant Steps (is the funniest but) cleverest version I have ever heard since Coltrane. This release is part of the series that included Tim Stevens Freehand (another recording that I am very fond of).
AJ you were right about Gil Evans Hendrix songbook. It sounds like Kenny G to me. I couldn't get past the second track!
Nat King Cole compilation 'Coffee, Tea and Me' some gorgeous piano work there. There is one track where someone has added what sounds like an extra track of synth 'strings' but it sounds moe like Keith Jarrett singing along but the rest is great.

Enjoying ABC's Radio National very much this summer, the Music show and Weekend Planet in particular this wet Melbourne Saturday. Also enjoying OJF as it slowly morphs into my very own blog! Fine by me

I've been using the holiday period (a bit less 'work-related' listening than usual) to listen to heaps of Ellington (mainly 40s & 60s).......he really was quite good, you know..........and the last few days, some Andrew Hill Blue Notes.

Andrew Hill : 60s albums like Black Fire, Judgement, Smoke Stack, Andrew!!!, Compulsion, Passing Ships, Dance Of Death & of course Point Of Departure : such imaginative & original writing, such great playing.
Later albums, Spiral, Faces Of Hope : just can't get into it.
