Older Sydney people may remember Barbara, a vocalist from Melbourne who was based there for many years. She died last week. She had been fighting cancer for many months before she died, But she was happy and cracking jokes until the end.
Barabara was a great vocalist and worked with just about everyone in Sydney and Melbourne and overseas, she used to do a lot of the Tonight shows on telly.
She told a great story about a night Oscar Peterson was playing somewhere (she was very young then) she didn't know who he was and she asked if she could sit in with him. It wasn't until several years later that she figured out why she was told a firm 'No'!
Barbara sang jazz and cabaret and was so much fun. I'll really miss her. She was a crazy, fun lady and we shared lots of music moments. She had great taste in music (i.e. we liked the same things).
There will be a memorial service in Sydney on August 1st, one in the Gold Coast on August 7th and one in Melbourne to be announced for anyone that wants to attend.
