Hi all, Jim Black will be in town this week. He will play at bennetts on Friday 2nd, yes this friday. He is a must see player 4 sure. Hell be with Julien Wilson, Aaron Chouli, Steve Mag, Will Guthrie and Scott Tinkler. Just so you know heres his bio - hes also doing a workshop at monash, see an earlier thread.
Jim Black has been playing drums for twenty-three years. Born in 1967, he grew up in Seattle, WA, playing music ranging from garage rock to big band swing. In 1985 he went to Boston, MA to attend the Berklee College of Music. During this time he recorded numerous albums, performed in Europe and taught summer classes at Berklee. In 1991 he moved to Brooklyn, NY, and has since become one of the most in demand drummers in the jazz/new music scene today.
In addition to co-leading and composing for the groups Pachora and Human feel, Jim records and tours extensively with diverse groups including Ellery Eskelin, Chris Speed's Yeah No, Tim Berne's Bloodcount, Dave Douglas' Tiny Bell Trio and Uri Caine's Mahler and Bach Projects, and Laurie Anderson.

Jim Black!!! Not 17! Not Italian! Not the next Charlie Parker! Not boring! Not rude! Not stiff! Thank Fuck for JB and the guys at jAZZGROOVE IN sYDNEY for having enough imagination, knowledge, and foresight to bring out such an important, creative, interesting musician. Not another boring seppo band please festival people.....not when there are musicians like this around!!! Bring back Jim Black

The jim black gigs in sydney were excellent!!! The solo concert was inventive and exciting . . . a rare treat to hear such amazing musicianship. The quartet gig was totally cool . . . more ambient. Great playing from the local boys.
