Media Release
November 1, 2005
The City of Stonnington is set to swing and groove in May 2006 with the announcement of Stonnington Jazz.
The ten-day program will commence on Thursday 4 May and will take place at various venues around Stonnington including the Malvern Town Hall and Chapel Off Chapel.
City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Sarah Davies said Council is proud to host such a high standard of jazz performances.
“The City of Stonnington is proud to announce that two true legends of Australian jazz have been confirmed for the 2006 program. Both Vince Jones and Don Burrows and friends will perform.
“Internationally acclaimed guitar maestro Bruce Mathiske has also been confirmed for the program, as has Elana Stone the National Jazz Awards winner (announced at last weekend’s Wangaratta Festival of Jazz).
“Our community are very strong supporters of the jazz music industry and the demand for quality jazz performances amongst our residents and visitors of Stonnington is high.
“The program truly highlights home-grown Australian jazz and will showcase an extensive number of Australian jazz performers,” said Cr Davies.
Former Artistic Director of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival from 1998-2004 and Artistic Director of the TAC Wangaratta Festival of Jazz since 1990, Adrian Jackson said he is pleased to be working in conjunction with the City of Stonnington on a program that will provide performance opportunities for both local and interstate musicians.
“Stonnington Jazz will give local audiences an opportunity to enjoy music from some of Australia’s leading jazz performers,” said Mr Jackson.
A full event program is to be confirmed and will be published in February 2006. Regular updates on the development of Stonnington Jazz will be available by visiting Council’s website www.stonnington.vic.gov.au
