Hi there, wanted to make a quick comment about this whole Tiger rex thing etc. i mean why should we be interested in an "out of towner"? We have great Talent here in Melbounre, the cultural center of Australia...so it annoys me that everyone is talking about this new guy (who I have heard by the way and he sounds great.SO WHAT!) so do a hell of alot of players here in melbourne. Been to 303 lately? Heard Adrian Sherrif? Heard the Cabrones? Heard Mark Fitzy Heard Alison Wedding- she s an out of towner but shes sort of like melb family now and she is the highlight at bennets when she sings there... I mean if new people get all the attention it just shows that people arent listening what we have here in our great city. At least Michael Tortoni has exclusive Jazz rather than the Basement with all that pop and rcok and roll crap...I mean Im not knocking Sydney, im just saying we should be more aware of the sort of high quality artists that are here, you know what i mean.
Anyway, thanks for reading
Aaron

"at least Michael Tortoni has exclusive jazz..."
Aaron, I agree with your sentiment regarding Melbourne artists (Tiger Rex is a freak though) but could you please clarify what the above quote means.

Apparently Stanley Crouch is writing the liner notes for Tigers upcoming CD"Tiger in the swingdom of King". Heres an excerpt:...." Tiger bestows upon the elegance of swing an undercurrent of nonchalance which signifies and codifies the african tradition.Which is really not bad for a white cunt.."

Am I the only one getting sick and tired of this Tiger psycho-babble crap? This forum used to be entertaining. Anyone who doesn't know- Tiger Rex is Dave Rex, alto saxophonist who lives in Melbourne. Duh.
