I wonder how many here have actually lived in Melb and Syd for any length of time? Very different places indeed. I actually love living in Melb, it suits me, but, the time I spent in Syd was a very productive time for me. I was lucky enough to form a band with Simon B and Adam A and spend many hours of intense rehearsal working on our music, this was one of my most fruitful times as a musician in terms of growth. Its an old argument for sure, and one in which there a many points. I might throw this one in for debate. I think there has been more great players emerge from the Sydney scene than in Melb. Please note I said more not better! I think this may have been due to the very active scene there in the 70's and early 80's. Lets see what that stirs up.

Coming from melbourne I agree that jazzgroove is a very organised and happening weekly gig. But this seems to me to stem from the comparitive lack of venues in sydney willing to put on a diverse range of jazz gigs. Most nights of the week in melbourne there is at least a couple of venues that have the equivalent of the jazzgroove. Is it a matter of the sydne scene is focused into fewer gigs, whereas melbourne often spreads itself too thin?

hey mark thanks for puttin on those killer gigs at the powerhouse Thanks so much brisdude, I do appreciate the positive feedback. These things will only continue if they succeed, please try to get as many of your mates to go. There's a fantastic discount if you book for all 3 main acts (you virtually get one free) and of course all the great Brisbane talent for free in the Spark Bar before and after.

I'll be there Mark if they let me in, its just round the corner for me.
Whats next then, skinny nights fat jazz? Long nights, short jazz? I'll play at that one. I know, soft nights loud jazz.

Yes, Sid, the cuisine is almost bad enough to make it to NSW standards, but the wine and the event is so good it HAS to be Victorian. It must be the proximity of NSW that makes the food so dodgy, or perhaps the town is populated, mostly, by Anglo Skips.
