Good Night, and Good Luck
What a masterpiece of cinema. Excellent script, superb art direction, divine cinematography, perfect casting, inspired editing, and great music too (soundtrack features Dianne Reeves and is available on Concord).
Highly recommended.

These holidays...
Broken Flowers: Another indie crossover for Bill Murray. Great story and quirky. Sin City: Freakin excellent. Feels like you're in a comic book. Tarantino directs a bit. Anchorman: With Will Ferrell. Funny funny funny funny. In the spirit of Waynes World and Austin POwers I guess. The Jacket: Psycho-thriller. MARCH didn't like it but I did. Keira Knightley is a bit shit playing an american hoe bag.

But she looked hot on the cover of FHM. (I don't read FHM, I just saw it in the hairdressers!)
Just saw Gods & Monsters. Stunning performance by Ian McKellan as the director of Frankenstein, James Whale.
Saw the Triplets of Belleville, fell asleep half way due to the lack of dialogue, bad idea to watch it when you're tired. Need to try again, great film (so far).
A Love Song for Bobby Long, John Travolta and Scarlett Johannsen. Fantastic.

Gods & Monsters: I agree Mim, another fine film. Sin City (Shaggaz) I was really looking forward to, and I think the art direction was superb and some of the performances ace, the costumes divine, but I felt the film would have worked better as a short, it was about 60 minutes too long. I left half way through feeling disappointed and bored, and I was stuck in Perth at the time with no gigs to go on to either.

Hello. I saw a movie today. 2 in fact which is amazing given that I see about 4 movies a year!
Herbie - new revamped Herbie. Man it's so bad it's brilliant. That chick in it is hot and i've really missed Michael Keaton these past 10 years or so. It is heaps of fun. Maybe you jazzterlectuals will hate it though.
Corpse Bride - this is very good. Tim Burton is one very messed up dude, but he sure makes entertaining flicks. It's animated and is really wierd/cooky. Bit of a musical to boot w score by Danny Elfman. Very funny and highly reccommended. Even for you jazzterlectuals...

Last week, saw a couple of dvds my kids chose.
Napoleon Dynamite was pretty odd. Spirited Away was an animated film that was genuinely bizarre.......I imagine it would be perfect to watch if you were on drugs, cos I think the director might have been !

Napoleon Dynamite is the best aj. Be careful or you might see the start of a thread devoted to lines from that one... Vicki I agree that the middle of Sin City is slow and you feel like the plot can't really pick up again but it does! Oh well diff'rent strokes, folks and the like. Saw million dollar baby last night (guess who doesn't have a tv so can't watch cricket but only dvd's on the computer) was a little diasappointed. Great story but strange dynamic between cast members and some bad acting as well.

Brokeback Mountain is another masterpiece of cinema by maestro Ang Lee. A heartbreaking beautifully told, superbly filmed story, depicting tragedy without resorting to gratuitous violence. Great cast, strong performances, oh and the cinematography! This is such a great year for films. Go see it and take a box of tissues and your best friend with you.
