So...what are some smashin' finger-clickin, head-noddin', face screwin' gigs that have been on lately??
What's happening in the living world mmm?
May pertain to jazzbo tomfoolery points of interest or even, gasp, the music.

Not necessarily Jazz, but improvised music at its finest:
Cor Fuhler at NOWnow, Sydney: Solo piano at its most. Tony Buck, Clare Cooper and me at NOWnow, Sydney: Delicate but brutal. Robin Fox at NOWnow, Sydney: Brutal, with a laser too! Pateras/Baxter/Brown at NOWnow, Sydney: You know I'm not shitting you. Natasha Anderson and Amanda Stewart at NOWnow, Sydney: Fuck me, but that show was sublime. Kris Wanders, Slawek Janicki, Alister Spence and Toby Hall at NOWnow, Sydney: Ecstatic jazz by 4 masters of the form. Jon Rose, Clayton Thomas and Chris Abrahams at NOWnow, Sydney: A 3-headed improvising machine. Botborg at Articulating Space, Melbourne: Brutal! Pateras/Baxter/Brown and Jeff Henderson at Articulating Space, Melbourne: Seriously, I'm not shitting you. Pita (Peter Rehberg) at Articulating Space, Melbourne: Fucking brutally sublime. Chris Abrahams at Articulating Space, Melbourne: That dude is focused. Carolyn Connors and Jeff Henderson at Articulating Space, Melbourne: Stupidity has never been more consciousness-raising. Beta Erko at Articulating Space, Melbourne: The past, present and future of improvised Hip Hop.

Yes I just heard from a mutual pal that it was a great gig AJ, same person said during the conversation that you are the only critic in Australia who knows anything about music! Lucky you. Just don't let the power go to your head big man! :-)
Wish I could have been there, last time I saw JM it was a total blast, what a great, great musician.

okay, wishing i was in m-town to see/hear/taste Articulating Space...
BUT...what I've seen lately that may (does) suffice:
The music of John Hollenbech with Austrian Big Band Graz featuring Theo Bleckman @ Tonic and the IAJE, NY - one of Sophie's top 5 gigs of all time. Lovano w/ Fringe Trio (Gallotti/Lockwood/Galzone), Zeitgeist Gallery, Boston, two nights a go - Gallotti show inc. Ben Monder Trio @ Jazz Standard. Enough said Deerhoof, tonight @ Middle Eastern, Cambridge, Boston. Got back 20 mins a go, ludicrously good math/exp./kraut/art indie rock.

hey bucket, nownow sounds like it went off this year, wish I could a bin there. I must admit to not knowing of the articulaing space at all, was it a festival or a regular gig. I'm a little out of the loop at the moment, to much renovating. I did go to Mullers gig but for some reason ended up a little drunk, funny how that happens. Hey aj, you should definatly consider marc hannaford for a wang gig this year. He doesn't need to be on the potential list, hes bloody good now!!

Nup. My Disco got the support in melbourne, cos they're better looking than us. we have to haul our arses all the way to brissie, where the kids are less superficial.
