Ali I'd be a bit careful about rushing to conclusions about "IronGuts" being an IGNORAMUS. He's definately rough around the edges, and I like him that way, but he is by no means ignorant. Quite the opposite in fact. total sweety too.

He might not be an ignoramus but why then does he act like one. No need to spoil what for some is a special moment, it really shows a severe lack of respect. I think that it is fine not to be into all music but why hang around if its not to your taste. Surely it makes more sense to go somewhere that you're not offended, but then sense isn't a thing that Mr IG seems to have much of.
there once was a fool called ironguts, who didn't use his brain, just his nuts, he pissed off the band and all that were at hand now we all want our fist between his butts.

People are spoiling people's special moments all the time. whether intentionally or not.
Heckling is a part of the culture. I know I've been heckled by you tinky, and possibly by you too jamie, and several dozen times by jules. MAybe IG had a point. maybe they where showing off. despite their claims of "No Rivalry" I would argue that it is close to impossible for jules and jamie not to feel rivalry towards each other. You know how I can tell they're rivals? because their answers to questions about each other are so damn diplomatic.
Nothing wrong with showing off either, just sometimes it can get too much. Sort of like chocolate or sweet liquer. I was talking to IG throughout the night, and he was saying that he enjoyed the music. I did, however leave before the end of the night, so i didn't see the incident. Maybe IG had just had enough jazz, but was a little to ratfaced to get home.
Look, I"m not really supporting his actions, but it's not really the worst thing to ever happen is it?

No it's not the worst thing to happen - but there was no showing off happening, we were just trying to make music. Unfortunately we didn't pass ironguts' impeccably high standards. He did however stay till the end, and say he enjoyed the gig - even the though I had told him to fuck off before we finished the cadenza...
The one thing I really liked about Melbourne when I moved here was the unity and camaraderie between the muso's here, and in general its still here, but this forum has started stirring up some ugly shit in the jazz community, with people bitching behind other peoples backs, and all this pseudonym bullshit. At least Tinky, Kenny, Vicki, AJ and some others have enough "guts" to be upfront. I mean, whether you like your peers music, style, technique, etc, etc, or not - we are all trying to do the same thing, and make something worthwhile in a world that is exceedingly becoming commercialised, culturally devoid and war-ravaged.

Jamie, for the record : I'm not gonna hand out gigs to Wang based on whether or not I win at golf.
Now, poker, on the other hand..........

I agree with you entirely about the unity and camaraderie. It's the thing I love most about this scene. that theres no seperation between the bop, trad, modern, avant, noise, folk, rock whatever guys.
Although I think that the Pseudonym shit has to be taken in the context in which it is meant. All the pseudonym's on this board who post 'bitchy' and 'ugly shit' also post here under their own names. (Iron Guts, Jazz Police etc.) The pseudonym is simply a way to air extreme feelings that a PART of that person may feel, whilst keeping it seperate from their core personality. For example: I might start up the name "Old Jazz Cunt" and say something like "Scott Tinkler's playing gives me the shits. he plays baffling music, that gives me a headache, and make's me want to bash his head in if he wasn't so much bigger than me" and... to a certain extent that's true. A part of me thinks that sometimes.
VERY IMPORTANT TO NOTE HERE THAT SCOTT IS ONE OF MY VERY FAVOURITE TRUMPET PLAYERS but then everyone that knows me, knows that.
I would hold out no hope that I wouldn't be discovered if someone really wanted to work out who I was, and it doesn't matter.
It's part of the tension of the forum that multiple truths can co-exist and somewhere, at a point which can't be pinpointed, lies the actual amorphous truth.
to a certain extent, a part of me would agree with everything jazz police said about Chindamo, but then, I have enjoyed many of the shows that I've seen him do.

Damn straight we are. but i don't reckon we'll get there by always being sugar-dusted-nice to each other. If nobody is ever an arsehole to you how the hell are you gonna learn anything?

Johnny, Did I say anything about being sugar-dusted -nice to each other? I don't have to like you, just have respect for what you are trying to do, whether i like it or not. And with the heckling thing - we all know Tinky is the master, and he only does it to people he knows, and we know it's in jest. I don't know Ironguts from a bar of soap, and he had the gall to yell at me at my gig. I've been off cigarettes for a week and feeling a bit edgey - If I hadn't have had a couple of relaxing single malts before this happened, it would have been on. What the fuck is going on in this town? I can handle being heckled by some drunk fuck-stick off the street who wants to hear Barnsey, but not by another musician who I don't know at all (actually, I've never heard you play so I'll reserve my judgement on the musician bit). If you pick the wrong guy to do that to you might find yourself being scraped off the floor....

Now Jamie; don't be unkind. Violence is the last refuge of a scoundrel (OR SOMETHING...) and don't do anything that would involve scraping of the floor of 303 cos briody might have to do the scraping and I think I might be in love with her, among others.
Look: it's interesting that someone like you, who (look I don't know you that well so I'm just guessing) has very strong views about what he likes and what he doesn't. THAT"S FAIR ENOUGH. you should have. it's a part of what makes you so great. BUT it's INTERESTING that you're talking about RESPECT for other styles. NOW: I'm not saying you don't have any, but..
what was the last thing you said about the make it up club? was it something along the lines of "Jeez those guys are great, deveolping different sonic ideas, and pushing the boundries of 'what is music' and such" or was it more along the lines of "Fucking Art wankers! why don't they learn to play some tunes!!"
despite, the loaded nature of the language I've used in this question, I actually do mean it as a question. please don't think me rude.
Irons: You're a funny cunt. trying to grow pubes as we speak. OOAARGH!!! ouch.
Vicki: Yes. I agree. showing off is great, and part of what we should be doing. far from being seperate from the artistic ethos, it's a big part of it. Joyous celebration of your own own sound. your own voice. it's fucking brilliant. it can go to far though: but thats a different conversation.
GB: I got so smart by reading Terry Pratchett. He's the Douglas Adams of the Fantasy Genre. very stupid books with very profound messages. DO IT.

Beautifully said, Jamie...
and for the record, there was nothing "show-offy" about that cadenza- it was beautiful music being communicated through 2 incredible artists (thanks guys)... and the rude comment made by IG wasn't the worst thing to ever occur (duh) but it REALLY was inappropriate and appeared to come from a place of insecurity and/or jealousy if anything...but hell, what do I know... I'm just a VOCALIST, right? (and she opens another can of worms.........)

by the way, when I said "beautifully said, Jamie", I was referring to the "we are all trying to do the same thing, and make something worthwhile in a world that is exceedingly becoming commercialised, culturally devoid and war-ravaged" bit.... PREACH IT, BROTHER!
