Interested in the best record shops to check out for jazz, first and second hand. A street name would also be appreciated.

Basement discs in the city..pricey but lots of choice..-24 Block place...Discurio also..smaller choice.. 113 hardware st city...JB HiFi not bad..also good for cheaper box sets and specials..in Elizabeth St bw Londsdale & Lt Lonsdale.....
If you're heading towards St Kilda..Mainly Jazz run by Roger Bielby is a gold mine of some older stuff..Brighton Rd b/w the interchange & Inkerman st...not open much..ring to find out hours...

synathsaeia has a local selection of jazz shtuff, as well as all the other mouthwatering specimens of indie/improv/experiemtnal/blah they've got there...mmmm

JB hi fi on Bourke st in between swanston and Russell kicks tit on the Elizabeth st one. There are Rudy Van Gelder re-releases by the bucket load with 2 for $25 stickers on them. Most other killer albums are 18.99 or 17.99 or something. You end up spending heaps of money there cause it's so cheap. They also have a great jazz vinyl section, with many of the 2nd Miles quintet albums for around $20.

every now and then crazy people dump their awesome cd collections in at dixons. I have picked up many a bargain at the fitzroy store. good vinyl too

thank you to all the kind people that replied with tips, but this northerner, due to a health setback won't be able to visit the 'best of them all' city for awhile now. The games certainly showed off some of the beauty of your great city. Did all you musos make a fortune out of the games, extra gigs etc.
