Hi All Thanks to all of you who helped out in trying to get a list of the all-time top OzJazz CDs together. I have used the info gathered to create an online poll at home.austarnet.com.au/petersykes/jazz100/ozjazz_poll.html The poll also features in the Jazz 100 site menu. A blurb promoting the poll has been included on the site's home page at home.austarnet.com.au/petersykes/jazz100/index.html#1 I would appreciate any help offered in promoting the poll. The poll lists 100 OzJazz records nominated by various people who sent me info. Those wanting to participate are asked to nominate what they think are the five best records on the list. Results are instantaneous and people are only able to vote once. If enough people vote and the results are statistically meaningful, I plan to construct an OzJazz Top 50 in the same format as other lists on the Jazz 100 website. Of course, voters have the option of nominating a CD for inclusion in the poll... if enough people agree with them, their nomination gets listed. I am by no means certain that the 100 records listed are the best on offer. Some artists may be missing, while others possibly over-represented. I did the best I could with the info I was sent and can always fix things up as new info comes in. Thanks again for your help. Cheers Peter

Hi Vicki
Thanks for voting. Feel free to pick a couple of the more obvious exclusions and send them to me. I have the option of expanding the number of records in the poll if need be.
Cheers Peter

Hi Again The first day of voting in the poll saw 80 votes cast (i.e. 16 voters), which is an excellent result. Results can be viewed at www.internationalvoting.com/int3/poll.cgi?pid=32-201&popup=1&novote=1&w=600 for anyone who is interested. A statistically meaningful poll will require about 100 voters (although I haven't pulled the old marketing research textbook off the shelf to validate this). When it gets to a point that it is obvious that some records on the list simply aren't getting a guernsey, I will remove them and replace them with the more popular suggestions that I receive. Thanks for the support. Certainly a very promising start. Cheers Peter

just checked the poll and saw this: Australian Art Orchestra - Ringing The Ball Backwards I think the correct title must be either Ringing the bell or Wringing the ball backwards

if it's 'Wringing the Balls Backwards' must be referring to Phillip Rex..

Hi All
All spelling and titular mistakes pointed out thus far have been corrected. Three CDs added as per popular feedback.

What about Snag?
Their album, the one with the cows on the front, I have forgotten the name (too many buckets)...that is my all-time fav jazz album....
This seems to be recent records only?

You should talk to John Whiteoak about jazz jazz pre 1990s - actually 1970s. The list looks a little unbalanced. Most of the Cds listed were recorded in the last 10 years.

maybe if australia had some kind of reissue thing happening we wouldn't just be listening to cds from the last 10 years. eg- looks like every bernie mcgann record on rufus is on this list, and rightly so. but has anyone got any pre-1987 bernie on cd? (is there any? surely...)

Hi Good points I am only too aware of. I guess the reality is that people will only vote for things they can buy and listen to. I am trying to identify classic titles to include in the poll. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. The first page of OzJazz reviews (address below) on the site has a few I already came across. Perhaps a few good candidates for re-issue there? home.austarnet.com.au/petersykes/jazz100/australian.htmlCheers Peter
