Im rather curious.
Do any of you cross over to the Dark Side and allow your ears to be assaulted by anything other than Jazz?
I listen to classical, jazz, some pop (only the good stuff) and Im a mad Dance enthusiast (the only simultaneous Dance and Jazz lover I know). I LOVE local live music too.
So yeh: what other music do you listen to?

Lately:
*Loads of western swing by Milton Brown, Cliff Bruner and more.
*Lots of early honky tonk, bluegrass and other country stuff.
*Lots of jazzy, snazzy, jumpi', jivin' popcumjazz on all the early 'toons that Bennie and I watch on DVD.
*Also been checkin' out soul by Paul Kelly, R&B boogie by Cecil Gant and gutbucket blues by Lightning Hopkins.

I LOVE western swing & blue grass. Early Bill Haley yum. You like Zydeco? Zydeco? Used to - A LOT! But sorta burned out on it and cajun. Beautiful music, but I reached my limits listening to music that prolly shouldn't be divorced from its social (dancing) habitat. Yup[, I'd love to able to spring for that new Bill Haley/Bear Family box!

I like to dabble: I onced added some Trance beats (which are generally horrible) to some cajun music and pushed the BPM up a bit. But its not fit for aural consumption really... just for fun. It worked nice.. just wasnt for me. It sounded like bad country and bad dance. ew

I listen to classical, jazz, some pop (only the good stuff) How do you do that??? Do you have a shit filter that stops the not so good stuff from hitting your ears? Wish I could do that, just can't stop that crap coming through my kids' radios

I avoid Top 40s and find pop I like in my own way. I usually see who else the jazz musos are working with: eg Chick Corea played with the Foo Fighters at the Grammys a few years back - so I looked into them. Steve Gadd performs with Sting; Vinnie Colaiuta performed with Chaka Khan, Inaya Davis is known across the dance world as Inaya Day...... there plenty to look for it youre willing to find Also Dat Gumbo Groove: are you able to recommend more Cajun to me at all? I love it.. but Im a bit limited in my collection and it would make it easier for me to simply lift an album rather than buy listen and hate lol

Best advice: Go ask Denys at Hound Dog's Bop Shop, 313 Victoria St, West Melbourne, phone 9329 5362. Open Thursdays-Saturdays. That place ROCKS! Best record shop in the southern hemispehere, IMHO.
