Hi,
I am a saxophonist and composer from Toronto, Canada coming to perform in Melbourne & Sydney and wanted to
spread the word!
My website is at www.quinsin.com -- presskit available there
if there are any press people on this post-- and my
Australian press release is below.
I have a group featuring String Quartet and Jazz Trio that
I am wondering if anyone knows of any presenters I should
approach while I am here about this group?
I just did a record with New York drummer Jim Black and bassist Mark Helias of this music (coming out early 2005.)
Thanks and I hope to meet with many of you!

PRESS RELEASE:
_______________________________________________
“One of the truly bright younger jazz minds…” (Mark Miller, Globe and Mail) in Toronto is Quinsin Nachoff, a tenor saxophonist and composer. He has performed internationally in Paris, Japan, China and New York. This will be his first trip to Australia.
A winner in the Canada Council Jazz I.D. Competition showcasing the top young jazz groups in Canada, Toronto Star critic Geoff Chapman wrote that “the final act [Quinsin Nachoff Quartet] was in some ways best of all. The Nachoff horn soared and swooped, with explosive moments and long, long lines that declared his resolute sense of
adventure. The tunes were good harbingers of 21st-century jazz."
Magic Numbers, a vibrant and original group that blends jazz trio with string quartet, will play the Melbourne Jazz Festival on the 9th of May. Quinsin brings a wide range of influences to this music, borrowing from jazz, classical, rock and tango. He writes with a wide range in dynamics and atmosphere, from melancholy and introspective to exciting and aggressive.
The Quiescence Quartet is a group that is drawing on, stretching, and extending the history of jazz quartet music. Playing at the Melbourne festival on May 8th, Quinsin has written music that is "fascinating, reflective but always interesting. Classical influences abound, postmodern adventures..., and floating melodic lines...make tunes...fascinating, enigmatic but exhilarating. It's probing music with prescient interaction..."(Geoff Chapman, Toronto Star).
Quinsin will also perform with local musicians at the Side-on-Café (May 10), Jazz Groove (May 11) and the Vanguard (opening set May 13) in Sydney.
