I would like to congratulate Mark on taking the initiative to set out on a crusade to ban all that which cheapens and brings in to disrepute the honourable and artistic intentions of the jazz community, which I am always proud to say I consider myself a non-performing member of. Lately there has been a spate of unmentionable drivel appearing here in the loftily intentioned oz jazz forum, and it has done NOTHING to enhance the marketability of our favourite art form or the sheer joy of being able to converse via this terrific site with musicians the calibre of Jamie & Scott and Alison. Well done moderator. A round of applause to you, and I hope that all the great musicians posting here will continue to share their thoughts.
Bravo Moderator!

I agree much of the more grotty stuff we could do without, especially - as Mark says - the forum has become a prime search engine portal to Australian jazz.
In terms of keeping things "on topic" I am a little wary. I REALLY like hanging out with jazz folks, but I'm not sure I actually want to talk about it with them all the time.
But Mark's reply to my query about food topics is reassuring, and I'm confident his definition of "on topic" more than adequately has scope for plenty of wacko humour and lateral thinking.

It's unfortunate that it had to come to this, but it had to happen. Let those who wish to hurl buckets of bile at each other, or at innocent bystanders for that matter, set up their own website. Brave decision, Mark, but absolutely on the money. This jam session had become loud and boring.

Hey Mark -
I like a good laugh, but I was starting to feel a bit...I dunno, kind of low and icky when I logged on here (though, like a train wreck, I couldn't help but look)...
I think you've made a wise move. Good job for not being reactionary, but giving things time to develop...was getting a bit outta control, but you stepped in at a good point.
Kudos to ya
