Went to the Blind Boys of Alabama/Afro-Cuban All Stars gig at the concert hall last night. The sound production for the Blind Boys was a bit rubbish, but thankfully it was not so for the ACAS as they played with a dynamic range rarely heard from musicians in Australia. From an amazing pianissimo with all 17 of them playing to the roar of just the rhythm section, they had it all. Why it is that so many of us neglect the full dynamic range available to us?
The real star of the night though was a guy dancing right in front of the stage. He looked across between Michael Tortoni and Larry David, and danced as though he'd been simultaneously possessed by Mr Bean and Kosmo Kramer. There's nothing like the obliviousness of a bad dancer to cheer one up.

Yes, I spotted him too..........he was having fun, so good on him !
But the contrast was marked, cos there was a girl right near him who was such a good dancer !

I must have missed her - I was blinded by his shirt!
