From the patmethenygrouplistenernetwork:
This past December Pat and pianist Brad Mehldau teamed up for a long discussed and highly anticipated joint project together. Meeting in a New York recording studio for a week, the two musicians each arrived with an armful of new tunes written just for this occasion along with a few older pieces by both.
The six day session resulted in what Pat has called "one of the most truly inspiring and satisfying collaborative oocasions I have ever experienced".
Look for two releases over the next year featuring Metheny/Mehldau duets and performances of Pat with the Brad Mehldau Trio (featuring Larry Grenadier and Jeff Ballard).

...I didn't have to wait long for THAT response, Cap'n! As soon as I saw this thread I thought of you. Don't know whether I told you but I saw Mehldau here in Feb. It was mighty good. Trio gig, Grenadier and Ballard.
Even tho lots and lots of people bag Metheney, I quite like his playing on Charlie Haden's 'Nocturne' alubm - he plays nylon. Great atmosphere. I am afraid I haven't checked out much of his other stuff.

I retain the right to poke fun at Brad 'Radiohead' Mehldau until he stops taking himself so seriously. Pat's alright.

And Ping Pong Jazz is not my term, but i've heard a lot worse ways of describing contemporary jazz trends.

To quote a great man (melb muso - he knows who he is):
"I want 'x' (e.g. a holiday) just like Brad Mehldau wants to be taken seriously as a social commentator."

Social commentary in jazz is social commentary with even less listeners than normal. How about if Andrew Bolt played jazz and infused it with his social comments?

'How about if Andrew Bolt played jazz...?'
You've never heard of Kenny G ?

I always thought Kenny G was more of your sugar-coated type conservative, not a bitter, invective ranter.

True, I was just trying to think of someone truly loathsome.

Both loathsome, but different. Like Eddie McGuire and Stalin. Both loathsome, but very different.

Try Kenny G. and Tony Blair - I wouldnt compare Andrew Bolt to anyone who was at least trying to be creative.... although likenesses to Richard Wagner spring to mind.....
